Clan Campbell Society - AGM Minutes 2006

The Annual General Meeting

of the Clan Campbell Society (NA)

Stone Mountain, Georgia

October 20, 2006

President Thomson declared that, as most members had been present for the EC and CCS meetings, it was not necessary to recap those meetings. He reminded the AGM that our deficit of $4000 could easily be overcome if each member recruited just one other member.

Tommy then asked any members or Commissioners to comment freely.

  • Cliff Campbell, Deputy Commissioner for Region 12, commented on the time frame for membership cards to be received by new members.
  • Tommy responded that Membership Chair Michele Campbell had improved her ability to get membership materials to new members. Walt clarified the proper procedures from the past. The difficulty for many Region Commissioners in understanding the process stems from the lack of an updated manual. The new member’s temporary card should suffice until the renewal of that membership provides a permanent card with a membership number.
  • Dora reminded the Society that temporary cards were not being sent out at this point, due to the number of refused credit cards and bad checks. Walt indicated that the temporary card was in effect a receipt for money the new member had paid. The matter was referred to the Vice-President, Randy, and Dora who will come up with a means to verify a membership.
  • Rob said that the discussion elucidated what had been going on for the last 3 years in the absence of a tent packet, and with the lack of a manual and the lack of training for commissioners and tent managers.

The Secretary reported on the election and he certified that James R. Campbell, Kenneth B. Campbell, Carl A. Guilford, Jr., and James Campbell Quick had been elected Trustees.

Barton commended Dan M. Campbell for doing a splendid job as Region 3 Commissioner and thanked those who had been concerned about his recent ill health for their thoughts and prayers.

Melanie distributed an account of the true history of Glencoe, which David S. indicated is similar to that which is currently presented at the Glencoe Visitor’s Center in Scotland.

Members were encouraged to attend the Stone Mt. Games on Saturday and Sunday. Sixty-eight persons registered for the banquet, which was held at the St. Kilian Hall on Saturday evening, October 21. Dinner was served buffet style and the meal was followed by awards, a silent auction, Celtic songs and live music performed by Angus Campbell of Denmark, and a Ceilidh.

The meeting was adjourned at 3:30 P.M.

Respectfully submitted,

David A. Stedman

CCS(NA) Secretary

Reminders:

President Tommy resolved that the revised tent manager’s form would be in the hands of the tent managers before the next season. (But who will affect that?) (page 5)

Tommy indicated he would write a welcoming letter to be included in the membership packet. (page 5) What about the Region Commissioner’s manual?

Randy said he would investigate GOOGLE ads as a way to generate income from the website (page 6).

Rob, Randy and Dora will come up with some means immediately to verify the membership status of recently signed-on members (page 7).

Rob and/or Ed will discuss with J. Higgins what an advertisement in our JOURNAL with the designation as our “clan store” would be worth to them (page 6).

Donald agreed that the booklet he co-authored on Clan Campbell castles could be made available on the web or used by the Society to help induce membership renewal.

Dora’s application for membership form to be posted on the website should include the formula: “Add $2 for credit card payments, for a total of $27.”

David S. agreed to pester Inveraray Castle and the Argyll Estate until we got some news and information from them and they agreed to keep in regular contact.

Ann agreed to try to reopen the store within Region 4.

Randy agreed that the “website option” would be available for the next election.

Regions 6 or 12 agreed to host the midyear meeting, the second half of February. Details to be worked out.
