April 2007

April 6th is National Tartan Day in North America. Beginning on Friday, April 1st and through Wednesday, April 6th, Tartan Day Celebrations are going on all over the USA, Canada, Scotland and anywhere Scots gather to commemorate the signing of the Declaration of Arbroath, the Scottish Declaration of Independence, on April 6th 1320 at Arbroath, Angus, Scotland.

Tartan Day in Australia and New Zealand is on or near the 1st of July. This commemorates the repeal, on July 1, 1782, of the Act of Proscription of August 1, 1746, which had banned all forms of Tartan, the bagpipes and generally anything Scottish or associated with Scottish life and heritage.

For the location of a celebration near you, look at the April listings below or try visiting www.tartanday.com for a web site, contact name or phone number.
