I married a Campbell, in Scotland, and he's an American, too! We moved back to the States in May '95. If anyone has any questions about modern day Scotland, her people, or a couple of good pubs, please feel free to e-mail me. I will answer everyone eventually. This web page is very informative and we (my husband and I) will return often.

I have not read anything in your web pages yet so if I don't find what Iam looking for could you please Tell me about the Campbell,s killing off the Mcdonalds. I went to the Alafia Rendezvous this year which is 1940's and below period living. I was introduced to another Campbell in Scottish clothes. When the hole camp found out another Campbell was around talk about how the Campbell's where payed to kill the Mcdonalds back in the old days. They even had a song about it. So this is why I'am looking this info up. By the way there was 1500 people at this rendezvous and just about every one of the knew about this feud about the Campbell's and Mcdonalds. Thanks for you help.

Now this is something! Recently joined the society. Been working on the family history for a while now. I am the son of John Scott Campbell (1926) , who was the son of Robert Clark Campbell (1886-1930), who was the son of John Scott Campbell (1836-1894), who was the son of Jesse Campbell (1779-?). who was the son of Alexander Campbell (?) who came from Scotland ca. 1760-80. Looking for anyone who has information. Alexander came by way of Philadelphia and the family moved from western Pa. to Guernsey Co., Ohio in early 1800s. Anyway, this site is a tremendous idea and would enjoy writing to anyone else interested in the history of the clan. Don't have an e-mail address as yet, but can be reached through P.O. Box 2824, Edgewood, NM 87015. "Here's tae us!"

Very informative and interesting site. My family connection is that we were doctors and pastors to the Dukes of Argyll. The family tree has been researched back to 1662 - as far it can be, so I understand, as records prior to that date were "lost" after the union of Scotland and England under James VI (and James I). If anyone can assist in tracing the family back prior to 1662, I would like to hear from them. Keep up the good work!

I've been interested in my family history for some time. I gathered the following information from my maternal Grandmother and it's my hope that you could point to where I could find out more about my family. In about 1825, a young couple arrived in Canada, thereby beginning the Hunter Campbell family. At one time at least a quarter of the settlers of Eldon were Campbells, so it is convenient to use such designations as the Hunter Campbells family to distinguish this line from the other branches of the family. Willian Campbell was born about 1796 in Port-Ellen, Islay, Scotland. As a young man he joined the Black Watch Regiment and soon found himself serving in Ireland. There he met and fell in love with Mary Hunter, the young daughter of wealthy Irish gentry. Because of their dislike for the Scots and because William belonged to the hated regiment, the family disapproved of the courtship. Despite their objections, the youg couple married and embarked for Canada. They eventually reached Eldon Township and settled on the 10th concession east of Argyle. Here they raised four children, each christened with Hunter as their middle name, vis: Archibald Hunter (my Great Great Grandfather), Duncan Hunter, Anne Hunter, and Betsy Hunter. The next generation continued to use the "Hunter Campbell" as a family name, vis: Neil Hunte, Duncan Hunter, Ellen Hunter, Archibald Hunter, Mary Hunter (my Great Grandmother), William Hunter, Annie Hunter, and Colin Hunter. My Grandmother's (Effie) older brother is Archibald Hunter. My mother's generation was skipped but she saw fit to pass on the name of Hunter to me as my first name. Even if you are unable to help me trace my family any further, I am interested in hearing other stories. Hunter J. Price

I am interested in this organization as I am a descendant of William Burns, who came to this country in 1719.

I am researching my family history. My grandfather is a Campbell. I have traced our history back to the my great great great grandfather Archibald B. Campbell who came to South Carolina from Scotland when he was a boy.

I descended from Duncan Campbell of Glen Moriston, Scotland. His son John Campbell (died 1843) who married Margaret McPhee and immigrated to Glengarry, Ontario, Canada. Their son John Campbell (died 1862) who married Mary McDonald. This is the most informative web site yet!

Am new on www. Lucked onto your Society. My mother was a CAMPBELL, her name was Edith. Her people, names unknown, came from Scotland(naturally) in early 1900. There were some LORD family members somewhere in the past, but my mother did not mention them often. The CAMPBELLs settled in/around Boston, Massachettes. She married a TALMADGE in 1930. I am new on the WWW, and found your very nice cite. My mother was Edith CAMPBELL, from Massachusetts. She married a TALMADGE in 1930.

Love this area, I check back every few months to see what's new. I trace from William Rhea to Archibald Rhea to Matthew Campbell Rheah and Janet Baxter. Matthew was arrested with 9th Earl of Argyll, and Matthew was thrown in dungeon on Isle of Mann under promise of death, after 1685 Monmouth rebellion; someone got him a boat and he escaped to Ireland. Changed his name to Rheah, and thus the name eventually became Rhea.Would love to know if Walter Campbell can be definitely linked to Matthew Campbell,as his father.

I think this is great...I don't really know a whole lot about my ancestors but this lets me know little by little. I thank the people who spend their time maintaining this site. I am curious about one of the Campbell Castles which was sold a few years ago--and any Campbell castles for that matter. I am also interested in various clan plaids. if anyone knows of a good book or site to visit to visually see various plaids.. let me know.. Thanks and good work!!!
