I am a Campbell on my mother's side of the family, but have always felt closer to my Scottish roots then to my father's side of the family. Have visited the castle at Inveraray, but unfortunately it was a week early and they had not opened for the season. I still loved the town and it's people.

I am Ronald, Son of Alexander,(Alvinston, Ontario) Son of John( the region of Loch Linnhe). We are descended from Alastair MacKellar, who signed the bond of manrent to His Grace of Argyll in the 13th century.
Now for the bad news: There were three MacKellars at Glencoe, I believe that two of the three were antecedents of mine. A pity that Ian Abroach didn't have the P.R. before the incident that they've had since.
At the present time, I am unable to renew my membership(which expired many years ago). Now that I know of the website, I have an added incentive to re-join as soon as I am able.
Thank you all.

So glad to find The Campbells on the Net! What a great web page!
Had been a member in the past. Would appreciate receiving
membership application, so I can "renew"!! My father was
John Campbell, born in Paisley, Scotland, near Glasgow. My
wife and I were in Scotland three years ago, for a two-week
vacation and we absolutely "fell in love" with it. We would
go back "in a heart-beat"!! Keep up the good work on the
web-page!

IT IS A PLEASURE TO VISIT THE SITE. ABOUT 10 YEARS AGO MY UNCLE, WILLIAM SHANKS, TRACED BACK OUR FAMILY HISTORY FROM THE IMMIGRATION OF MY ANCESTORS FROM SCOTLAND TO AMERICA. MY FATHER'S, TOM SHANKS, ANCESTORS WERE NOT ASSOCIATED WITH ANY CLAN BECAUSE THEY WERE CITY DWELLERS AND TRADESMAN. BECAUSE OF MY MOTHERS ANCESTORS, THE WATSONS, I CAN BE INCLUDED WITH THE CLAN. I AM CURRENTLY SERVING IN THE UNITED STATES ARMY IN KOREA. SOMEDAY WHEN MY HUSBAND AND I ARE STATIONED IN GERMANY, I WOULD LIKE TO VISIT SCOTLAND TO SEE THE BEAUTY FOR MYSELF.

My great-great-great grandmother was Lady Lillian Campbell of the house of Argyle -- she was born sometime between 1800 - 1820 and from the info we have she was born in Edinburgh. She married Capt. David Geddes Esson. One of their daughters, Francis Isabella Elizabeth Esson married Martin Newton Kellogg and they lived in the St. Paul area of Minnesota. There was another daughter who we have some info on -- Josie Esson who was born in Cascade, Iowa and who became Mrs. Kines. If anyone has info on the names of the parents of either Lady Lillian Campbell or Capt. David Geddes Esson, a note to my e-mail would be deeply appreciated. Thank you.

So nice to be able to use this medium to contact other Campbells. I have only traced my ancestory back about 5 generations and am keen, and will soon have the time, to got back a bit further. However, I am missing an American branch!
I am Scott Campbell of Halifax N.S., son of J. Angus of Victoria B.C., son James Wilson of Greenock (Scotland), son of John a "flesher" in Greenock, son of John owner of a meal mill at Achafola on the island of Luing.
Andrew, a brother of my Grandfather James, moved to the USA (NY?) about the turn of the century and aws never heard of again except that he may have married one Bessie Malcolm an dhe may have lost a leg (working for the railroad?)
I will look forward to swapping stories.

Errata previous entry to guestbook 28-jan- 97 should read I am interested in the Campbell-McPherson's of Craignish, Argyll or the "Clandowill McPherson's" of Craignish Patronimic of the descendants of Dugald Campbell the Parson of Craignish
third son of Campbell of Lochowe I have traced my roots back to 1758 with Hugh McPherson at lergiechoniemore farm, on the Barbreck estate Craignish who would have been my GGGG great grandfather. I believe I am descended from the ClanDowill McPherson's allthough this not possible to prove conclusively.

Love the site! I'm a Thompson descended from the MacTavishes (not the ones who were run out of Clan Campbell). Still trying to trace most of my Thompson roots, but have already traced my mother's. She's a Lockhart, of Clan Ross. Would love hearing from other Thompsons, especially those in the Deep South. Also, any tartan info much appreciated. Aye.

I come from Cape Breton Isle,Nova Scotia Canada. Cape Breton is rich in
Scottish heritage, many of the towns and counties are named after places
from the homeland, some people still speak gaelic, our traditions, our music,
our way of life, and not to mention the geographical similarities.Since I
was very young,my interest in my heritage was very strong,I studied the folk-
lore, recearched my roots, and anything else associated with my Scottish background.
I enjoy this site because it brings me in touch with my heritage and it is very
good as well.Thankyou.
