I am descended from Campbells on both sides of my family. I have a great-great-grandmother named Margaret Campbell who married Balaam Darke in Pike County Illinois in 1830. I have a great-great grandfather, Duncan McVicar who came from Argyllshire to Quebec with the British Army and transferred to Upper Canada (now Ontario) where he married my great-great grandmother, Elizabeth Mansfield Birmingham McVicar (her first husband was also a McVicar -- no relation), Duncan served in the 6th New York Cavalry during the Civil War and was brevetted to Lt. Col. for bravery at Fredericksburg. He died at Chancellorsville on April 30, 1863.

I found a wealth of information while visiting your site, much of which is contrary to my prior understanding of the Campbell clan's history. I was previouly led to believe that our ancestry were brutal and notorious as a "Warring" clan. I am now fortunate to be better educated. I would like to trace my tree in particular. Can you help? I would also like to become a member of this fine society. Please send me a kit. My home address is 970 Bay Ridge Avenue, Brooklyn, NY 11219 Thanks for being there!! Regards, John G.
