I'm not a Campbell but my Wife, daughter and Sister-in-Law are. Their names are, respectively, Laurel and Kelli Lynn Schneck, and Denise Campbell. My wife Laurel Schneck and her sister Denise Campbell are very interested in their Scottish and Clan Campbell ancestry and so will my daughter Kelli Lynn Schneck (presumably). Can you send them some brochures or information on membership in the Clan Campbell Society? Thank you, Steve Schneck

In researching my Family Tree, I have learned that my gtgtgtgt grandparents were Thomas and Esther ( Campbell )McLaughlin AND Thomas and Elizabeth ( Campbell ) Smythe. Esther and Elizabeth were sisters...and, during my teen years, my grandfather, R.H. Skolfield, used to tell me about how many of Esthers and Elizabeths descendants resembled the Marquis of Lorne. I was also told about how The Marquis of Lorne married a daughter of Queen Victoria's. Upon finding a diary belonging to my gtgrandmother...she told about someone in the family marrying the groom of the estate and then being ostrasized (sp?)from the Royal Family...? She then made the following entry in her diary:" Mother Miller would never let this be spoken of"...! If anyone has ever heard similiar stories, I hope you will share these stories with me as I would love to piece together this puzzle in my Family Tree. GreatGrandmother also added in her diary about us being descended from The Campbell Clan of Argyll. So now I am trying to learn everything that I can about the family!!! This is a GREAT page! Hope I can hear from lots o' "cousins" about the family!!!

I started looking into my past and found that my great grandma was originally a Campbell. I would like to know if they are part of this huge clan. The info I have is that my great great grandpa was Donald Campbell from Scotland Grey County and he married Annie MacEachren (Callingwood). They had 18 children. I know of 11 names: Charlotte (Lottia), Peter, Donald, Sarah (my g-gma), Mary, Agnes, Archie, Colin, Henry, Duncan, and Evelyn. It seems that most of them lived in Ontario. If anyone has any information for me about these people, I would be very interested in finding out. Thanks.

I'm interested in finding out more about my great grandfather Clyde Merrit Campbell and the Campbell clan's history. I'm also going to be visiting Scotland at the end of this year. From some of the information that my mother has given me their may be a family castle in either Argyle provence or Invernes. If so I'd love to visit it while I'm their. Thank you very much.

Three Gailey(Gallie,Gaely)brothers left the Isle of Bute during the 1715 uprising because they were Protestants and I believe Bute was a Stuart(Catholic)stronghold at the time. I recall the Duke of Argyll's forces laid waste to Rothsay castle on Bute during the 1685 uprising and I'm wondering if anyone is aware of any Argyll company rosters during that excursion. I'm trying to piece together the reason why my family chose Bute as a home and how they got there. I appreciate any help from my fellow clansmen on this. Thanks in advance.

I found your site in my "beginning search" for my mothers ancestors. My mother left her family in Judique Nova Scotia and married my father in Birmingham, Alabama. She was Anne Catherine Campbell,b. 1911 ?, daughter of Dan W. Campbell, b. 1864, and Mary MacDonald of Judique South. She had a brother, Hugh A., a sister Mary, and another brother who died at an early age. Since she moved so far from her home we never knew our grandparents, cousins, etc. I can remember traveling by train to Nova Scotia when I was a small child, climbing the snow drifts to the second story window of my grandparent's home, and going down stairs to the kitchen to sit by the stove to warm. Not much but all I have, I would love to find anyone who can help me piece together what family my mother left behind when she moved to Alabama to have five kids!

Great site. We are trying to obtain info on our G-Grandfather Stephen R. Campbell, from Fleming Co.,KY. He died on Jan.16, 1918, at the age of 86 yrs. He was married 4 times. Marriage #1 to Rua Hinton, in 1852 (2 children: Charles and Albert Wise), #2 to Margaret A. Butler, in 1859, #3 to Cornelia P. Overly, 1861 (children Mina "Minnie" and Anna E.). Cornelia was the dau of Isaac Overly. Wife #4 was Elmira Dodge. Elmira had a son John from a previous marriage. Stephen R. was buried beside his first wife, Rua, and their son, Charles. They were buried at Bald Hill Cemetery in Fleming Co.,KY. According to a family story, Stephen R. had a brother and sister, named Rebecca, who moved to Waltonville, Illinois. Our grandmother, Mina Campbell, married Isaac Evans in 1883. Mina and Isaac Evans both died in 1900, when my father was 14 years of age. This is all of the information my family has on our Campbell ancestery. We would love to have more!

I descended from Isabella Campbell, born in Argyll in 1767, and Allen Cameron, born in Argyll in 1759. My grandmother suggested that Isabella was from Inveraray and was Sir Colin Campbell's daughter. Another source says she was a niece, if related at all. Isabella and Allen married and immigrated to North Carolina with Isabella's sister, Mary. The three are buried, with tombstones imported from Scotland, in the Cameron Hill Presbyterian church cemetery. Allen was called "Hill Allen" to distinguish him from "Mill Allen," a miller who lived nearby. Would appreciate any help

I am a descendant of EZEKIEL CAMPBELL and JANE MODRELL who were married 18 Mar 1816 in Pulaski Co., KY. Both were originally from TN. They finally settled in Andrew Co., MO. Jane was a daughter of GEORGE MODRELL, and granddaughter of ROBERT MOTHERAL from Mecklenburg, NC, and, previously, Lancaster Co., PA. My Campbell line continues as follows: Ezekiel and Jane had a son, JAMES MARION CAMPBELL [b: 1817] who married MARTHA PEMBERTON in 1841. In turn, they had a son, JOHN HENRY CAMPBELL [b: 1841] who married JANE FOSTER [her second marriage] in 1864. In turn, they had a son, JOHN MORGAN CAMPBELL [b: 1871] who married LABERNIA ISABEL HINMAN in 1895. Jane's father, JOHN J. FOSTER, had settled in McDonough Co., IL. I appreciate any help in researching these families further. Thanks. Doug Showalter

I have been browsing the many sites encapsulated within the CCSNA home page, and I must say I am impressed. It is really nice to see that there are so many of my (although distant) kinsman out there. I have a huge interest in involving myself with the persuit of information concerning the branch of the Campbell's that I am from. I want to nurture an interest in this in my children, I want them to know who they are and from whence they came. That is one dis advantage to this country, it is very easy for family groups to become fragmented. I hope to attend the highland games in Murfreesboro this weekend and am looking forward to enjoying a little taste of "Home". Respectfully, Bart Campbell.

Thanks for all of the Campbell information. My Campbell relatives were homesteaders on the plains of Montana. No one who came to the U.S. had been very impressed with Scotland; it was always described to the family as "A cold dismal place with nothing to eat except oatmeal and potatos and an occasional fish". As a result, no one from my rather large family has wanted to even visit Scotland since our ancestors left it in the early 1800's. I'm going to visit next month-the first one to go back. I'm looking forward to seeing the land my relatives left behind without looking back. I currently live in Southern California, where it hardly ever rains (or is even cold) so I'm stocking up on raingear for the trip. I plan to take lots of photos to share with my relatives when I get back! I can't wait.....

Enjoyed reading about the Clan Campbell webpages. A close friend Allan Mitchell, who lives in Inverness, Scotland and I doing a web page on "Scot's in the Civil War," thus one of my reasons for checking your web site. As for my personal ties to Scotland, my family (MacGibbon), now spelled McGibben, are a sept to the Clan Campbell, and came to the U.S. shortly after the Battle of Culloden and the first Highland Clearances and settled at Ruddel's Mill, Ky in 1781. Well at any rate enjoyed the Clan Campbell web site.

I have an uninterrupted genaeology from then until now with this document, although have done little wider searches or linked with anyone. The family returned to England in 1830, an now my uncle who is a Caddell lives back in the States. If anyone is interested in more information, please email me.

My mother has traced our roots to a Scot named James Smylie who emigrated to America in 1776. We believe that he worked on the Duke of Argyll's lands prior to emigrating. I have been unable to trace it past him (he was born in Kintyre in 1745 and so was his wife, Jane Watson). I am wondering if his having worked Campbell lands makes him a member of Clan Campbell??! Being an American and relatively ignorant of Scottish history (although I am learning as fast as I can!) I think that may be a silly question but can anyone tell me how I can find out if I have a connection to Clan Campbell? Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Recently I have found out that I have Campbell in me. After that I heard of the Highland games in FResno at Coombs river ranch. There I became a member of the society. I met many other Campbells there. Three of which I give thanks to. Carl A. Guilford Jr, William Campbell, and Jerry Campbell. These three were very knowledgeable about the Clan Campbell. I would like to say thank you to them. The farthest I have been able to research the members in my family, Is a Hosea A. Campbell born in 1830 and died in 1913. He married Sarah E. Harrington who was born in 1833 and died in 1914. I do not have the month and day nor do I have the date of marriage. I beleive that My Great Great Great grandfather (Hosea) was the first to come to the states. Thank you... You may e-mail me at cstone39@hotmail.com or tj1@inreach.com Thank you Chris Stone
